VISITING

It is as a tourist attraction that the Lightship continues to be a favourite place to visit. Our figures for 2009 indicate that over 100,000 visitors came aboard.  Comments in our Visitors Book show that people come from all over the world and are impressed with the imaginative way in which a former Trinity House Lightship has been put to such good use.

WHAT TO SEE

  • The Chapel - formerly the forward hold, the Chapel is reflective of our ecumenical partnership and is open daily for prayer and meditation.
  • The Conference Room - was the anchor chain locker. It is also, now, an exhibition area.
  • The Engine Room - descend the steep stairway to visit the refurbished engine room, with its original generators and electrical boards.
  • The Wheel House - the ship's wheel and pedestal, bridge/engine room telegraph and pelorus are on loan from Cardiff Sea Cadets.
  • The Tower Room - the base of the tower is being converted to a small museum as funds become available.
  • The Tower - climb the steps into the Light Tower and view the reflectors that would have sent the Light some 25 miles.
  • The Heli Deck - here the helicopter would have exchanged crew members and brought supplies. The circle marks the spot!
  • The Mess Room - where crew members would have had their meals. The fiddles on the tables, when raised, prevent crockery from falling off.
  • The Cabins - originally there would have been two bunks per cabin. The Master's cabin is now the Chaplain's office.
  • The Galley & Lounge - crew members are delighted to serve you from our excellent range of light refereshments and drinks - at very competitive prices.
  • Shop - selling Lightship souvenirs, cards and love spoons.
